Now let’s consider another card in the pack – the Overextenders. These people are not always thought of as difficult since they are not aggressive, obnoxious, stubborn or hard-headed.
They are enthusiastic, energetic and obliging. However, their compliant behavior actually makes things harder for themselves and others. It ends up being the opposite to what they want. They are unable to say no to others and maybe ends up being yes to overextending themselves.
DEALING WITH DIFFICULT PEOPLE AT WORK AND HOME
The Overextenders cause trouble at both home and at work. They just cannot say NO to requests made by other people. They cannot draw the line and establish boundaries about what they are able to do and the time they have to do these things. In basic terms, they truly overextend themselves.
DEALING WITH PEOPLE WHO PROMISE TOO MUCH
In handling difficult people who are Overextenders it is important to realize that they often agree to do things to maintain harmony and avoid arguments. However, this only results in more disharmony and further arguments down the track when they over promise and are unable to deliver.
COPING WITH DIFFICULT PEOPLE AND UNINTENTIONAL RESULTS
The Overextender does not intend to hurt anyone, but by taking on too much they have to break their promises to those around them. This results in others being unable to rely on them and what they say they can do. The helpful Overextender ultimately is seen as the unreliable liar.
HOW TO DEAL WITH DIFFICULT PEOPLE
